AAAARRGGGHHH...

...the comedic spin to it might just be the right formula... and it worked... as the audience, you come in the theatre knowing its a comedy and for that you have different expectations - and you may not admit it but such expectations are new... heck when was the last time you watched a "real" superhero flick which lines up with comedy... Agent Banks nor the Spy Kids don't count!!! (lol)

...the plot's fresh... when was the last time you watched a superhero getting dumped... see? geeting the point?

i like Uma's acting.. as the super-stressed hero, she played it convincingly, Luke, well, apart from he's fat, he's old funny Luke... you know one-liners here and there... and another thing i liked about this film is Anna Faris breaking out into a "real" movie.. not the "Not Another Blah Blah" Movie Series... although its still a comedy, its not a spoof movie.. well her acting's mature enough to take on "advance" roles so good for her...

to close, well its not a "fantastic" 5 stars movie.. but its a "good" movie nonetheless... we really don't need to always have movies where we go out the theatre with a heavy heart or crying or having a heart attack for too much laughing... you know, once in a while its fun to see a feel-good flick after a long day in the office... it may not be a blockbuster but at least its well worth your 1 and a half hours...

Ciao!!!

* photo from the movie's official website

Tags: uma thurman luke wilson anna faris rainn wilson eddie izzard philippine movie reviews boxoffice

Review: Sukob (Filipino for "Curse"/"Wedding Curse")

The story revolves around the superstition that a couple should not get married in the year as when a member of the family dies or gets married also at the same year.

Here, Sandy (Kris Aquino) and Phil (Wendell Ramos) are scheduled to get married. While preparing, Kris learned what happened to her childhood friend Helen…

Helen got married a short time after her father died. A few weeks after the wedding, Helen’s husband dies in a plane crash. As she goes to the crash site, she dies in a bus accident. A few weeks later, Helen’s mother suddenly disappears inside her house as all their bodies have never been recovered.

Helen really has nothing to do with both Kris nor Claudine it just introduces viewers to the superstition…

Moving on, Sandy/Kris continues her wedding which translates into a series of unfortunate events… which are similar as to the stories about Helen... to stop this, Sandy searches for answers leading her to discover old family secrets which in the end would be the key as to stopping the curse that is “Sukob” (wedding curse)…

Well, this horror flick sure gave me a handful of scares all throughout… Kris Aquino’s acting continues to improve and Claudine Barretto is an established actress herself.. Wendell I guess needs more workshops… Ronaldo Valdez’s humor balances all the horror happening and Boots Anson-Roa, well for the role, she’s really over-qualified… what can I say?

As a whole… well.. the movie’s scary.. if you like movies that make you twitch from your seat from time-to-time go and watch this movie…

* photo from the movie’s official website

Tags: She therefore decides if all such success is worth it…

The movie’s very entertaining if I may say.

Although it reminds me of a cross between a recent film I watched, Click! (success over family plot) and Anne Hathaway’s original Princess Diaries (ugly duckling to beautiful swan), the film was great. The actors/actresses played their characters well especially Meryl Streep. I like the part at the end where she smiles amid all what has happened showing her “goodness”… but I won’t give any more details.. go ahead and watch it.. you’ll be entertained

* photo from the site: www.rottentomatoes.com

Tags: the devil wears prada meryl streep anne hathaway simon baker adrian grenier stanley tucci tracie thoms philippine movie reviews boxoffice

Upcoming: Snakes on a Plane

500 snakes & 30,000 feet in the air... whoa!!

...Samuel L. Jackson predicted in this year's MTV Movie Awards that his upcoming movie "Snakes on a Plane" will win next year's Movie of the Year award... by the looks of it.. with all the hype and the attention (especially on the web).. it surely is very promising...

..the movie's all about a man witnessing a mob murder. he then is scheduled to fly from Hawaii to LA to testify to the crime.. Samuel L. Jackson as FBI Agent Neville Flynn serves as his escort... and the mob boss, knowing this, puts about 500 snakes on the same flight... total mayhem...

...well the concept and the story is new and fresh which i think will be its edge over this year's movies prompting Jackson to be confident. I like the guy.. heck he's the epitome of "cool" in the US...

...the movie won't be opening until the 23rd of August here.. so i guess i have to wait for a week.. however, it opens on the 18th on the lucky parts of the globe...

..and due to Samuel L. Jackson's bold prediction (which i "sorta" believe - sorta because of Johnny Depp's Pirates of the Carribean), i can't wait...

* photo from the Movie's Official Website

Tags: snakes on a plane samuel l. jackson kenan thompson action adventure philippine movie reviews

Review: Click

...finally.. finally...

i got to watch Click! last week.. and oh.. first things first..

well.. i wasn't able to post anything the last few days due to some pc concerns, but all is well now.. on to the movie...

...i liked it.. like my previous post, i got to see one of my fave actresses.. Kate Beckinsale.. and of course Adam Sandler as well.... i was glued waiting for Rob Schneider to appear/do a cameo.. and alas... the sheik has arrived!! Prince habababa! (or was it habahara?..lol)

..the movie was hilarious... Adam was effective as a busy husband and father... and Ms. Beckinsale played her supportive wife role quite well.. i say quite since, apart from the "age transitions" throughout the movie, her acting prowess wasn't really on full display (prowess as in Underworld-type prowess..) here...

but i guess it wasn't necessary, in fact it was just right.. she'd smile and its already a great scene anyways...

Christopher walken was also on board and constantly bugging Mr. Sandler, he's effective too.. since his "irritating" character* at times irritated me as well.. (did u get that? i didn't too... lol)... but great acting as well.. what can i say, he's a seasoned actor.. doing movies even music videos...

* *i dont want to give away too much for those who havent watched it yet

...the other characters: David Hasselhoff, Sean Astin among and the rest also were hilarious..

as for the story, it was touching... at first twas all about the remote and lots of happy scenes... but as the movie goes on and Adam Sandler's character begins to struggle with this universal remote, this is where the movie really captures its audience... the comedy is still there but more drama ensues...

i especially love the part, Adam rewinds back to the last time he sees his father... heck i never expected such stuff from the movie... but it was great.. it defined what the movie was really showing or imparting to its audience.. and for it i appreciated the movie more...

overall.. it was a very touching movie... and its DVD version will most likely be added to my collection soon...

..for those who havent seen Click! yet, go and watch it.. it certainly "clicked" with me.. and i know it would also "click" with you...

:)

* photo from the Movie's Official Website

Tags: I guess it's the theme or plot that makes any john doe, or juan dela cruz, for that matter would relate to.

Anybody needs luck - or its equivalent for those who do not believe in "luck" per se. Hmm... karma? or destiny? Or blessing? Whatever ["Just My Karma" or "Just My Blessing" - its your choice :)].

..that is why, its so appealing, its something everybody can relate to... we've all had broken umbrellas on a rainy day, got splattered by a speeding vehicle, almost got electrocuted or got wet paint in our clothes.

As far as acting goes, well as much as you hate Ms. Lohan, acting is one thing she is known for. Her partner, Chris Pine was also believable in his role as the unlucky band manager. When you're an average person, you'd easily relate to him. Just like Ms. Lohan's friends (Bree Turner and Samaire Armstrong) who dont really get enough luck as Lohan's character but still they stick around.. they're friends...

Faizon Love was also hilarious. This guy was big (literal and character-wise..lol), especially on delivering his one-liners. Missi Pyle was also good on her role as the b$%chy boss - but at the end appreciative as well...

..i know this review is kinda late, but that's what i thought at first too, when i got in the theatre. But hey, it was a good find... capturing what a feel-good movie should be all about...

watch it...

* photo from the Movie's Official Website

Tags: "to take them into field trips" and stuff... it was moved by the scene... which is great.. if movies do that to you.. its a sign that its a great movie....

well.. if you've got nothing to do this weekend, heck.. tonight.. go and watch the movie... if you have kids, bring them with you, if you have friends, bring them too.. its a nice find... the tickets may not be "Libre" but hey... its worth it!!

* photo from the Movie's Official Website

nacho libre jack black nacho ana de la reguera sister encarnacion school of rock

spiderman 3

darn...

i havent watched Jack Black's Nacho yet due to work but i've got great news..

i've already seen the new spiderman movie due next year (2007) and its very promising - might even reclaim the box office title which Captain Jack stole bout 2-3 weeks ago.. :)

i've browsed the SPIDERMAN WEBSITE and they've got tons of downloads... wallpapers and screen savers for both PCs and MACs... "arrrrr.. its darn good!!" i wasnt disappointed with how the movie turned out... even though part 2 seems like an introduction only to the part 3 of the series.. heck.. everybody loved the LOTR, Matrix and StarWars saga anyways...

as usual it was superb acting from Mr. Depp... his patented "savvy" and funny lines bring life to his character... Mr. Bloom, well on the otherhand is in his usual Legolas self: the leading man type of role or "superhero" role if you will.. in my country.. its more like "bida" power... hihi...

Ms. Knightley also lived up to her role as Bloom's love interest or should i say the Captain's... o well you should watch the movie to learn more on that... :)

the supporting cast also did not disappoint...

overall.. the effects, the dialogues, the funny lines, the editing, the costumes... i like it.. its not overdone or trying too hard, ..just enough to please moview goers and deliver the message... or should i say the story... small twists also gave the series a lot of things to anticipate...

i dont want to give away too much of the story so you'll have to watch the movie yourself to see and experience what im talking about...

... be part of box office history...

* photos from the Movie's Official Website

Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Man's Chest Official Website

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://boxofficereviews.blogspot.com/2006/07/three-peat-pirates-of-carribean-2-dead.html' title='a three-peat?
